Authorities confirmed that the fire started on the left side of the stage while pyrotechnic systems were being tested ahead of the opening on July 18. Videos shared online showed flames rapidly engulfing the towering structure, with thick smoke billowing across the festival site.

Emergency crews were deployed immediately, and drones were used to monitor the extent of the fire. Firefighters worked through the evening to contain the flames and prevent the blaze from spreading to surrounding areas.

Despite the dramatic scenes, no injuries were reported. Over 1,000 staff and crew members were reportedly present at the time of the incident, but all were safely evacuated.

Local authorities issued warnings to residents in the nearby area to keep windows and doors closed due to potential smoke hazards.

The main stage, designed around this year’s “ice castle” theme, was almost entirely destroyed. It was considered the centerpiece of the event, which draws hundreds of thousands of music fans from across the world.

Organizers have since confirmed that the festival will go ahead as planned, although significant adjustments are expected.

In a statement, Tomorrowland officials said:

“We are heartbroken, but thankful that no one was injured. We are working around the clock to find alternative solutions for this weekend.”

DreamVille, the official camping experience for festival-goers, will open as scheduled on July 17, and Global Journey travel packages and pre-events in Brussels and Antwerp are unaffected.

The festival is set to take place across two weekends — July 18–20 and July 25–27 — with headline performances from Martin Garrix, David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, Charlotte de Witte, and more.

An investigation into the fire has been launched, with local prosecutors suggesting the cause may be linked to unintended ignition during pyrotechnic rehearsals.

Tomorrowland, now in its 19th edition, is one of the world’s largest and most anticipated music festivals, attracting over 400,000 visitors annually.

Further updates regarding the stage reconstruction or replacement, and any changes to the schedule, are expected to be released in the coming hours.
