New Delhi, August 3, 2025:
The Indian government has unveiled the much-anticipated National Education Policy (NEP) 2025 in Parliament, promising significant reforms to transform the way students learn and progress in the country’s schools.
Key Reforms and Immediate Impact of Education policy
The new education policy introduces several major changes:
- Focus on Digital Skills & Technology: Digital literacy and coding will be embedded across all grade levels to prepare children for a tech-driven world.
- Regional Language Medium: Up to grade 5, teaching will be in a student’s mother tongue, making lessons more relatable and interactive.
- Holistic Assessment: Traditional high-pressure board exams will be complemented with regular formative assessments for a more complete understanding of student progress.
- Vocational Exposure: Older students will have access to internships, skill-building programs, and career counseling, bridging the gap between academics and the job market.
Parents and educators have largely welcomed these reforms. “The new NEP moves away from rote learning and encourages creativity and practical skills—something much-needed,” said R. Iyer, a parent from Mumbai. Several established schools in Delhi and Mumbai are already preparing to pilot the new curriculum and evaluation patterns as early as September.
