New Delhi, August 4, 2025:
In a proactive move to strengthen security measures ahead of the 79th Independence Day celebrations, the Delhi Police has imposed a strict ban on drones, para-gliders, and all aerial devices across the National Capital Region (NCR) until August 16, 2025. This directive aims to prevent any security breaches and ensure smooth conduct of events on August 15.
What the Drone Ban Means for Residents and Visitors ahead of independence day
The ban prohibits flying drones or any remote-controlled aerial equipment without prior written permission from Delhi Police. This includes recreational drone use, commercial filming, and unauthorized aerial photography. The government emphasized that violations will attract stringent punishments under relevant laws.
The decision follows increased concerns about the misuse of drones for spying or unauthorized surveillance during high-profile national events. Police helicopters and ground surveillance teams will be on enhanced alert to enforce the ban.
Residents and visitors are advised to stay alert to official updates and avoid flying drones or aerial devices in prohibited zones, especially near ceremonial locations such as Rajpath, Red Fort, and major public gathering sites.

Delhi Police spokesperson said, “Our priority is the safety and security of all citizens as we observe the historic Independence Day. The drone ban is a vital precaution to ensure no untoward incidents disrupt the celebrations.”
The aerial ban will be reviewed after August 16, with authorities assessing further security requirements for upcoming national events.
